Our History

Conewago Enterprises, Inc. is a leading design-build general contractor servicing clients throughout the mid-Atlantic region and beyond. Conewago offers a full range of services, from site work and general construction services, to environmental and infrastructure projects, including tilt-up concrete, concrete services, and facility maintenance; in addition to ready mix, precast concrete, steel fabrication, and steel/precast erection from our sister company, Conewago Manufacturing LLC.

Founded in 1956 by Donald B. Smith, Sr., the company has continued to evolve over the past 65 years in response to the needs of its clients. From 1956-1993, Conewago Contractors, Inc. enjoyed a reputation as a well-run family company that offered construction services at an affordable cost while maintaining solid quality.

In 1993, under the leadership of Donald B. Smith, Jr., a series of investments transformed the company into multiple divisions, with a 300+ professional employee group today. Over the next decade, Conewago developed and invested in a NRMA certified ready mix concrete operation, a 25,000 sq. ft. AISC certified steel fabrication plant, and an impressive 131,000 sq. ft. PCI certified precast concrete plant, which has served as the foundation for its transition into our sister company, Conewago Manufacturing LLC, officially established in 2017.

Conewago’s ability to self-perform most aspects of the construction process has helped it achieve high levels of client satisfaction. Conewago has the ability, from inception to conclusion, to complete more than 60% of a project through self-performance of a Conewago division. This has allowed Conewago the ability to build and maintain a return customer rate above 75%, on average.

Conewago remains well positioned for growth due to strong hands-on leadership, a core professional team, financial strength, and an ongoing commitment to Helping Organizations Turn Visions Into Reality.
