The Steel Shop Material Handler is responsible for performing duties such as but not limited to material handling, operating machinery, painting and utilizing hand or power tools to complete assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner. They are responsible for blueprint reading, layout and painting to AISC procedures and standards. They will be encouraged and challenged to present more efficient and effective procedures.      

Job Duties:

  • Safety
  • Immediately report all accidents, incidents and near misses occurring on the job site to your supervisor.
  • Report all safety and health hazards to supervisors and take necessary actions to establish an immediate temporary control of the hazard until permanent control can be established.
  • Maintain and utilize all PPE provided.
  • Attend and participate in all required safety training and meetings.
  • Learn and comply with all safety rules, policies and regulations applicable to your work.
  • Work safely in a manner as to ensure your safety as well as the safety of those around you.
  • Follow all safety rules.
  • Material Handler
  • Interpret shop drawings.
  • Measure and layout accurately following shop drawings, sketches and verbal instructions.
  • Work in accordance to AISC practices and procedures and other codes when applicable.
  • Utilize painting procedures in accordance to SSPC.
  • Operate overhead crane and fork lifts for material handling.
  • Travel to job sites to preform duties assigned.
  • Maintain and document information required per AISC.
  • Special Projects
  • Perform all special projects as requested by immediate supervisor.

Summary:

The Steel Shop Operator is responsible for producing the highest quality product in the most efficient, safe manner. They are responsible for blueprint reading, accurate layout and proper weld technics in accordance with AWS and AISC standards. Their duties include the operation of an CNC plasma burn table, Press Brake, and other automated fabrication equipment. They will be encouraged and challenged to present more efficient and effective procedures.

  • Travel to job sites to erect and weld per prints or verbal instructions.
  • Maintain and document information required per AWS and AISC.
  • Special Projects

Summary:

The Steel Erector is responsible for raising, placing and uniting iron or steel girders, columns and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks. The Steel Erector may also erect and assemble prefabricated metal buildings and install roof decking. Completes the task at hand in a safe manner while helping to keep the job on schedule.

The Steel Erector must have experience in connecting steel, and be willing and able to travel and work out of town. The Steel Erector is also expected to be comfortable and able to work at varying heights.

  • Steel Erection
  • Connect columns, beams and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors.
  • Hoist steel beams, girders and columns in place using cranes to lift and position structural steel members.
  • Pull, push or pry structural steel members into proper positions.
  • Bolt aligned structural steel members in position for permanent riveting or bolting in place.
  • Fabricate metal parts such as steel frames, columns, beams and girders according to blueprints.

Works cooperatively with the Foreman and other team members.
